home sweet home?

so ive now been in my apartment for a few days. aside from furniture im pretty much all settled in. the people who lived here before me were carpet fresh freaks...i have so much vacuuming to do once i get a vacuum. sadly the carpet fresh situation just proves once again how futile carpet shampooing is. things are going pretty well i guess, job seems to be going well, place seems to be filling out. my broker cracks me up, today i came in from waiting for the cable guy, and the first thing she hollers across the office is "hey joel did you get your cox?" working in an office consisting of all women aside from myself is funny. this episode was followed shortly by my broker just seeing the top of one of my coworkers head over a partition, knelt infront of me with her saying, "well i was going to spit, but you know." and the perfectly reasonable explination for this was she was cleaning/shining my shoes. how exactly thats reasonable tho im not sure...all i can say is i was relating my carpet fresh woes to her and she went to work on my shoes. so atleast going to work is a hoot, not to mention as far as work itself goes, im doing well. im definitely starting to carve out a niche for myself as a leader among the group, ive already taken control of scheduling apparently, then during a training seminar last week, i successfully led the office in the exercise the seminar was focused on. my goal at this point is to work myself into a managerial/training position, i think i could get the agents all producing more once ive gotten a good feel for this system. so hopefully as i hone my own listing presentation, i can convert it into something that can be adapted by others and present the idea to my broker and the owners. ok sleepy time. ninight

question...

So as many of you are aware, ive been dating someone for a couple of weeks now, and i must reenforce the term dating, not relationship. but as of late im getting mixed signals, when we actually spend time together, she seems as into me as can be and always expresses interest in spending more time with me, however actually getting that time is like pulling teeth...granted she is a busy girl, but even so she seems to make little effort to spend time with me. so how does one deal with this contradictory behavior? my own thoughts lead to the idea that for things to happen between two people it takes more than attraction, it takes timing. which would imply that apparently now is just a bad time, given some time she'll become more availible. however my gut tells me something different. its telling me, hey she likes you, she just doesnt like you enough to make time for you. and i hate when my instincts start talking, cause inevitably in relation to these situations theyre always right, and i never want to believe them, hence i do stupid things to try and prove my instincts wrong. at this point if things go south between us, its ok no harm no foul. but i would like to know, since im starting to really like her and would like to have an idea of where things are going. the obvious is just talk to her about it. but even getting in contact with her for more than a few minutes at a time has been difficult the past few days. so maybe just walk away? i mean if she's actually interested she'll get in touch, but at the same time, that might hurt her feelings if she is, and then i become the dick. but does that really matter?

first friday

so, i havent given a real update in awhile, and i guess enough interesting things have piled up to warrent post. ive got a new job, i start on monday with Help-U-Sell real estate. and in general my life is on an upswing. things are starting to fall into place here for me. this is in part due to my no longer being entangled with a certain someone, ive found myself much lighter in my step. the rest due to the new job, the excitement of getting my own place soon, and the official reclaimation of my testicles, thats right you heard it folks, im back in the game and ive hit the ground running. i just got back from a great evening/night, went down to first friday with a new interest and some mutual and some of her friends. first friday is a monthly arts and music street event downtown, some pretty cool stuff, but surprisingly for vegas it shuts down at like 1100 with most of the vendors(read alcohol)gone around 10, but after that we went to juans house with intent to go to empire(afterhours club), but that went out the door and everyone just chilled at juans, played some operation and uno, was a naughty boy and did some coke. i tell you what, i may not have the urges to seek out and do drugs anymore, but newp still cant resist free when its offered to me. the date aspect of my evening went quite well, while i was originally hesitant about tonight because of the everyone being there, it actually turned out to be good, it was nice to spend time with her in a relaxed atmosphere where it was more like hanging out, than the stigma of a normal date. the interesting thing about all of this is that when i asked her to dinner, it wasnt possible til tuesday, but she suggested that i join her tonight(fri) in the mean time. so i got a two for one on the date thing ( : i may end up seeing her again tonight(sat), she asked if i wanted to come to the country bar with her. and also indicated that she would like to spend more time with me in general ( : so we'll see how things go.

"Hello, is this the Sheriff's office?"
"I'm calling to report about my neighbor Virgil Smith. He is hiding marijuana inside his firewood!"
"Thank you very much for the call, sir."
The next day, the Sheriff's Deputies and an ATF task force descend on Virgil's house. They search the shed where the firewood is kept. Using axes, they split open every piece of wood, but find no marijuana. They sneer at Virgil and leave.
Later on........The phone rings at Virgil's house.
"Hey, Virgil! This here is Floyd. Did the Sheriff come?"
"Yeah!"
"Did they chop up all your firewood?"
"Yep."
"Happy Birthday, buddy!"

fee fie foe fum!

well its been a while...things are good bad up down and around again. but that is life. I was in st thomas for a week, which was fantastic, yay for vacations! had all sorts of fun. i honestly think i drank more while there than i have in the past year, free booze+beach=happy. to really illustrate their attitudes towards alcohol, there was an activities board, and one day, before bingo there was a "snorkel booze hunt". and i should add that bottles of booze are frequently prizes for bingo. i went diving, it was an ok dive over all, its been 10yrs or so. but the reef wasnt anything fantastic. i did however see a nurse shark, or atleast its tail. but it has made me realize i should really try and find more opportunities to dive again. i kinda forgot how fun it is. ive also decided at some point i will live down there. or atleast in the islands, ill have ot explore more. the pace of life is ment just for me ( : plus its paradise. some of the beaches there were just fantastic, but the beaches on st john(took a day trip) were hands down some of the finest ive laid eyes on. in other news, i spent some time in chicago on each end of the trip, which was nice. saw nicky again which was fun as always. and i saw one of my friends from when i lived there. that was a little weird, but cool. even weirder tho was seeing his little sister, who all my memories of was of a bratty 3yo that got in our way when we were playing, and now is a very cute young woman. being at his parents house there again was like flashback central. weird how just being somewhere can trigger so many memories you would have never remembered just thinking about the past. things around here are interesting to say the least. i will be moving out around the feb. 1st so i will be without internet for a bit. *cry* stupid moving interrupting my internet goodness...but moving is a fantastic thing since it means being out of here. wooo! so far the apartment hunt is going ok, theres plenty of places, just finding one in a suitable neighborhood is the problem. a property management company we went by today the guy said, with what we wanted in the apartment, the only location with units availble like that, was in a bad neighborhood as politely as one can put it. hehe...so hopefully the sunday paper will yield more options. im hungry! ( : so this is all i have to say for now.

End of the trip!

well i just returned from Hyde Park and visiting Nicky, which has been a most pleasant part of my thanksgiving trip to chicago. the trip was good but im ready to get back to my life in vegas, well what little life i have there. i have satisfied all of my chicago food cravings for the most part. i got to eat harolds chicken twice(and introduced nicky to it) had real chicago pizza...god i missed that. and had plenty of other good food thats not chicago food but good none the less. I went to the art institute today, and being back there was alot of fun. altough i must say that even tho i love western cities, they lack the full culture and affluence of places like chicago, and the big east coast cities...how can i say this? because art is one of a kind...and if its all in the museums in those cities, it cant be elsewhere, sure it gets lent out and what not, but it always returns home. and these museums have a clought that cant be over come in a sense...so basically no western city for a long time will have a truly fantastic art museum. and no...i dont have to ever have had to set foot in a western museum(although i have) to know this because ive been in majority of the major eastern ones. but alas, even all of the cultural goodness to be had in places like this could hardly sway me to return. because its just too damn loud all the time. and i like them wide open spaces. a nice surprise tho, is that i will very likely see Jenni tomorrow. and if not sometime in the near future. i miss her alot, as much as things have been rough being her friend previously, those events only served to bring us closer as friends, because oddly enough we've always been able to talk about everything. and now thats she's far away(well not too far but still)i really dont have anyone in vegas, that im even remotely close to. although recently ive noticed(remembered/realized), that even tho i dont have anyone locally, i do have alot of great friends around the country. it just doesnt really help that im not in the same place as any of them lol. not to say i didnt think you all were great before. but you really start to appreciate things like that when you end up virtually alone in a place. now one of these days ill end up in the same place as atleast some of you again ( :

i hope everyone had a fantastic thanksgiving.

DOH!

LOS ANGELES - Actor Pat Morita, whose portrayal of the wise and dry-witted Mr. Miyagi in "The Karate Kid" earned him an Oscar nomination, has died. He was 73.

Morita died Thursday at his home in Las Vegas of natural causes, said his wife of 12 years, Evelyn. She said in a statement that her husband, who first rose to fame with a role on "Happy Days," had "dedicated his entire life to acting and comedy."

In 1984, he appeared in the role that would define his career and spawn countless affectionate imitations. As Kesuke Miyagi, the mentor to Ralph Macchio's "Daniel-san," he taught karate while trying to catch flies with chopsticks and offering such advice as "wax on, wax off" to guide Daniel through chores to improve his skills.

Morita said in a 1986 interview with The Associated Press he was billed as Noriyuki "Pat" Morita in the film because producer Jerry Weintraub wanted him to sound more ethnic. He said he used the billing because it was "the only name my parents gave me."

He lost the 1984 best supporting actor award to Haing S. Ngor, who appeared in "The Killing Fields."

For years, Morita played small and sometimes demeaning roles in such films as "Thoroughly Modern Millie" and TV series such as "The Odd Couple" and "Green Acres." His first breakthrough came with "Happy Days," and he followed with his own brief series, "Mr. T and Tina."

"The Karate Kid," led to three sequels, the last of which, 1994's "The Next Karate Kid," paired him with a young Hilary Swank.

Morita was prolific outside of the "Karate Kid" series as well, appearing in "Honeymoon in Vegas," "Spy Hard," "Even Cowgirls Get the Blues" and "The Center of the World." He also provided the voice for a character in the Disney movie "Mulan" in 1998.

Born in northern California on June 28, 1932, the son of migrant fruit pickers, Morita spent most of his early years in the hospital with spinal tuberculosis. He later recovered only to be sent to a Japanese-American internment camp in Arizona during World War II.

"One day I was an invalid," he recalled in a 1989 AP interview. "The next day I was public enemy No. 1 being escorted to an internment camp by an FBI agent wearing a piece."

After the war, Morita's family tried to repair their finances by operating a Sacramento restaurant. It was there that Morita first tried his comedy on patrons.

Because prospects for a Japanese-American standup comic seemed poor, Morita found steady work in computers at Aerojet General. But at age 30 he entered show business full time.

"Only in America could you get away with the kind of comedy I did," he commented. "If I tried it in Japan before the war, it would have been considered blasphemy, and I would have ended in leg irons. "

Morita was to be buried at Palm Green Valley Mortuary and Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife and three daughters from a previous marriage.

Forgive me Father, for I have sinned.

I kinda wish I was catholic sometimes, just because some of the catholic ritual is fun and interesting...like i just imagine going into a confessional(that is the term for the lil booths right?) and telling some priest all the naughtiness ive done...i think that would be a hoot! ( : but I also have a thing for priest wear...maybe its the all black, that and replace the collar with an old fashioned collar thats just folded down on the very corners, and with a slightly modified version of their long jackets...yeah I would look pimp
but aside from that things are as usual here in vegas. Jenni is here for the weekend, its good to see her again, I missed her. it will be fun to hangout this weekend. Then tuesday im off to chicago for turkey day! wooohoo! ill get to see nicky, eat some turkey, see my fam...sounds like a good trip to me! ( : plus ill get to see my nephew lil guy is almost a year old now. before i know it he's going to be all grown up and ill be an old man haha.

so i was watching this discovery channel show called, I shouldn't be alive, and the guy tonights show was about a wildlife guy in africa that was tracking a lost rhino in a plane who crashed and wasnt able to tell anyone before the crash. so both legs broken in multiple places he had to spend a day and a half until they found him...during which time...he almost got run over by elephants, lions got curious about him, at night a hyena got interested in him, due to poor blood flow his legs started convulsing, causing his bones to stab him from the inside...i hope god never hates on me like that.

moving to europe.

ok well not really...but dont be surprised if one day i do...in chicago, the city is trying to ban foie gras, based on the fact that its production is "inhumane" to the ducks and geese...the real kicker is...theyre not trying to ban the production, but the actual service of foie gras in restuarant. i dont really care if a duck or goose is treated inhumanely, thats a completely seperate issue...but telling people what they can and cannot eat...i'd like to punch every single city council member there in the chicago and tell them to pull their heads out of their asses and stop making purely political decisions that affect private business owners. boo hoo some damn geese and ducks are getting force fed, lets hop on this cause because it will look good for us. 80% of the foie is produced in france...these arent even "american" ducks and geese getting force fed. more importantly in my mind...theres all these animal rights type people out there...and yes...somethings that we as people do to animals is cruel or something like that. and yeah there should be some people to look out for that...but if you're going ot be a humanitarian type...atleast prioritize...sure you may love animals, but everyday there are people starving dying etc...why do i make this point...because these people(the animal rights people) could be trying to help those people eat and have a life, versus restricting what people can eat at a level thats sooo limited, more of an annoyance and offense, than a point made. this bothers me even more, since after being shown videos, some of chicago's and the nations most highly regarded chefs decided to stop serving foie gras...that ok fine...make a presentation to individual business owners and they can decide FOR THEMSELVES. which is what this country was founded on last time i checked...life...liberty...pursuit of happiness.
the real danger of this is precedent...this is a very esoteric issue in itself, however the precedent could be used for other restrictions...oh well jeez, those chickens...farmed inhumanely...sorry you cant serve chicken in your restuarant. not to metion that assbackwards approach...if you have a problem with foie gras or something like that take it to the level that it should be...like lobby for importation restrictions on foie gras, or atleast a production ban, as is in effect in california, not a service ban...because that certainly does nothing to stop the "problem".

libertarian for life.

sunday night.

so my not so exciting sunday night of watching tv was atleast highly entertaining. new family guy, good stuff as usual. but the real winners were nip/tuck and boondocks. i was flipping through the channels and stopped on nip/tuck just in time for a scene where a woman in a surgical recovery spa, is explaining she's never had plastic surgery on her face, and her secret was semen...not only that but since her divorce she's been having her sons put theirs in vials for her...but wait the writers even top this...the ladies at the spa decide to take the idea and make it into a face cream...which joan rivers ends up accidently taking some of the trial and ends up endorsing it...i applaud the nip/tuck writers fucking hilarious ( :
and boondocks new to the adult swim line up is Funny! it saddens me to make a post about tv...but it was damn funny. ( :
